First-ever European Championships set to host multiple para sports in simultaneous summer Rotterdam action.

AMSTERDAM, 21 June 2023 - Spring Media Group gears up its production planning and rights sales push ahead of the inaugural European Para Championships (EPC) set for August 8th-20th, 2023. Ten different para sports will be organized simultaneously in the heart of Rotterdam, Netherlands, for the very first time, seeing 1500 athletes from 45 countries compete for Championship trophies.

“We strongly believe that the concept of the EPC will contribute immensely to the growth and success of para sports”, says Eric Kersten, Founder of the European Para Championships. “If you want to get fans more interested in these spectacular sports, you must bring it out to the people. For exactly that reason, besides the famous Rotterdam Ahoy, we use several city center courts in the heart of Rotterdam as our sports venues. The cooperation with Spring Media Group is also going to help us enormously in achieving this important objective.”

Planned in a four-year cycle preceding the Paralympic Games, each time from a different European host city, the EPC acts as a qualifier event, either through direct spots or by earning Paralympic Qualification Points towards Paris 2024.

This inaugural edition features: Para Archery, Para Badminton, Boccia, Para Cycling, Goalball, Para Judo, Shooting Para Sport, Para Taekwondo, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Tennis.

“The 2023 European Para Championships is a beautiful sporting concept with high ambitions for global viewership and long-term growth,” says Tobias Osmund, CEO Spring Media Group. “We’re thrilled and humbled to produce and distribute the action, and have been hard at work to ensure a reliable and tailor made TV product - using both onsite and remote facilities - fit for the complexity of multisport events.”

According to Niels van Boheemen, Head of Broadcast at the European Para Championships, the efficient production and distribution workflows, together with the wide sales network of the Spring Media Group is crucial for creating a first successful edition and build-up towards 2027. “Due to Spring Media Group’s experience in creating a platform for upcoming sports, we believe to have found the right partner to build an international audience that these para athletes deserve, for now and the cycles to come.“
